Most
of your Grade 12/Senior Class is about
to embark on a very
important step in their life, moving onto post-secondary
education. For those of us who have gone through it ourselves,
the transition may have been smooth, or it may have been more
challenging.
Today's environment can be much more complex due to the many options
now available to students and the increasing competition for admissions
slots.
We have spent a great deal of time understanding all aspects of the
transition from high school to post-secondary education, by bringing
perspectives of the tried and true and the very recent.
Some of us are a bit older and have brought our transition
experiences into our professional lives at Sabre Associates. Some of us
are former high school and university
students who, as many of your graduating class are about to do, went
through a
very important stage in our lives - the transition from high school to post-secondary
education. |

The Beginning of the Transition Program Our Transition Program began through seminars at Crescent School,
a prestigious private high school in Toronto, and was targeted at
the Grade 12 Senior graduating class. The seminars dealt with the
transition from high school to university.
We touched upon
the soft skills covered in today's Survival Guide and the "Transition
to Post-Secondary Education" Programs. Out of these seminars produce a
booklet as a supplement to the programs. The result was the first
edition of "The Survival Guide" for the first-year of post-secondary
education. The feedback we received in the first year was overwhelmingly positive.
This translated to even more success for the "Survival Guide",
with many schools purchasing copies across Canada. The
response was country-wide, with schools hailing from provinces including British Columbia,
Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland
participating.
